Swiss broadcaster SRF has revealed that Remo Forrer will be representing Switzerland at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.

The 21-year-old musical talent is from Hemberg, far east of Zürich.

In a statement with eurovision.tv Remo shared his excitement in being announced to represent Switzerland:

"For a Swiss musician, there is nothing greater than the Eurovision Song Contest. For me, it's the music equivalent of the Champions League and an enormous honour."

Back in 2020 Remo won the third series of The Voice of Switzerland. After his win he has released many singles including his latest being 'Out Loud', which was out in September 2022.

Remo and his song for Eurovision 2023 were chosen in a multi-stage process by the Swiss broadcaster. Songs that were submitted were assessed by both an international jury of 20 music industry professionals and a panel of 100 television viewers. The vote from members of the public and the jury vote were each given a 50% weighting, with the scores ultimately going in favour of Remo Forrer and his song.

Remo Eurovision 2023 entry for Switzerland will be out on March 7.

Switzerland is one of the founding members of Eurovision, hosting and winning the very first edition in 1956. They have won the Contest twice; in 1956 with Lys Assia's 'Refrain', and in 1988 with 'Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi' by the iconic Céline Dion. Switzerland has done very well in recent years, placing 4th in 2019 with Luca Hänni's 'She Got Me', and went one better in third at the 2021 Contest (including 1st with the jury vote) with Gjon's Tears' 'Tout l'Univers'.

Switzerland will perform in the semi-final 1 at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool.
