Eurovision 2023 profile: Danny from Voyager

Tell us about your background, how did you get into music and join Voyager?

Born in Germany, then early violin, clarinet and piano lessons, classical classical classic music, moved to Australia, classical classical then BOOM Nirvana then BOOM Type O Negative then BOOM Black metal. Then BOOM Power Metal, then BOOM Progressive Metal then BOOM Voyager…. My poor parents! 7 albums later and an 8th about to be released, I am thankful to my parents for being so tolerant!

When did you first hear about Eurovision and what has your journey been like with the contest? Have you always been a fan or is it a more recent discovery?

I first heard Teach-In with 'Ding-a-Dong' when I was a kid - that kinda started it off and Eurovision has always been a part of my life ever since, even through uni days having Eurovision parties and finally attending Eurovision in Tel Aviv in 2019! I’m part of the Perth Eurovision Fanclub, took my 10 day old kid to the live screening. I’m a lifer!

What are your passions outside of music? Tell us all about them!

Moderately interesting vehicles from the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s. Also, comedy shows and anything that makes me laugh really. Mainly British comedy shows

If you could have a jam session with any three artists living or dead who would they be?

Max Martin, the producer - I’d love to pick his brain for just an afternoon and jam to see what we can come up with. Also, Peter Steele from Type O Negative and probably Louis Cole!!

Which Eurovision 2023 entries are some of your favourites?

Current high rotation:

Teya & Salena - 'Who the Hell is Edgar'

Reiley - 'Breaking My Heart'

Vesna - 'My Sister’s Crown'

Which three songs from Voyager's back catalogue do you think fans should check out?

'This Gentle Earth', 'Runaway' and 'Broken'.

Do you have a top tip for someone visiting Western Australia? Something they must see or a hidden local gem?

The tip is: be prepared to travel far to see amazing, but the things you’ll see are incredible. Karijini National Park, Nature’s Window at sunrise, Bridgetown, York - so many places!

Tell us a surprising fact or something we wouldn't know about another band member?

Simone does the best heavy metal screams out of anyone I know.
