International fan of the week - Becky from the UK

This week our international fan of the week is from Sheffield and Manchester in the UK. It's Becky with the good answers and you may also know her as @life_asbecky on Twitter.

What is your name and where are you from?

Hi guys! My name is Rebecca but I go by Becky too! I was born and raised in Manchester, England but I spend a good portion of my time in Sheffield too because it’s where I studied for a year and it’s where a lot of my friends live!

What do you do or tell us something interesting about you?

I’m an apprentice beauty therapist, with hopes of becoming a fully qualified makeup artist in the future! It’s such rewarding job as it helps boost people’s confidence and that’s why I love it so much! I’m hugely interested in pop culture as a whole as well as learning about the history and cultures of other countries but I’m also an avid baker too with my favourite thing to bake being White Chocolate Blondies!

Makeup artist sounds great, we haven't heard it described about helping boosting people's confidence like that, which is excellent! ~ Aussievision

When did you first get into Eurovision?

Eurovision has always been a part of my life, my mum first let me watch the contest in 2006, the year that Lordi won and I’m sure she’s regretted it since! I followed the contest very casually, only watching the final until 2013, when 14 year old me, looking for a reason to not do her homework, stumbled across the tail end of the second semi final and discovered through the magic of Tumblr that people follow Eurovision all year round! Since then, I’ve moved to Twitter, thrown and been to many Eurovision parties, gotten my family members and friends involved with Eurovision things to the point where I’m known in a lot of aspects of my life as “The Eurovision One” and had the absolute joy and pleasure of meeting my Twitter friends in real life at Eurovision in Concert and London Eurovision Party and to tell you the truth, I’ve never looked back!

I think a lot of people can relate to being known as the "The Eurovision One" - think it what binds us all together :P

Which is your favourite Eurovision year and why?

That’s a tricky one! I have so many fond memories of a lot of Eurovision years but 2014 holds a special place in my heart because it was the first year that I followed the contest throughout the year, the first year I threw a Eurovision party and it was the year that Conchita Wurst stole our hearts!!!

Which Eurovision song:

Is the best?

There are a handful of Eurovision songs that have had such an impact on me (Mercy, 1944, Kuula and Calm After The Storm being some of these) but nothing compares to 'A Monster Like Me' by Mørland and Debrah Scarlett! The staging was so simple but so powerful!

Good choice, great song!

Is overrated?

I may lose a friendship over this considering one of my friends in the fandom adores this song but I’ve never understood the appeal of or the hype with Beautiful Mess! It’s an alright song but it just doesn’t stand out to me!

Tend to agree, don't think it was a Eurovision winning song, thank god Salvador beat it ~ Dale

Was robbed?

There are some obvious ones that I think others will agree or disagree more strongly on but instead of saying those, I’d love to bring everyone’s attention to När jag blundar by Pernilla Karlsson which was such a lovely and heartfelt song that deserved a place in the final!

Had the best live performance?

I don’t think anything will compare to how in shock I was as I watched Iveta Mukuchyan perform LoveWave!

Great choice, stunning performance that first minute we were blown away by.

Did you last play?

Story of My Life by Naviband because I can’t start my day properly without some Naviband joy!

Is your guilty pleasure?

I’d say my ultimate guilty pleasure is probably I Love Belarus!

Any other interesting honourable mentions?

As a dishonourable mention, I used to be obsessed with Teenage Life by Daz Sampson when I was like 7 to the extent that it was the first single I bought but now I physically cringe whenever I hear it!

I actually quite like that as a guilty pleasure, but understand why you'd want to back away from that!

Which countries do you tend to support in Eurovision?

I guess it’s a British thing to do but I love rooting for the underdog countries so I have a soft spot for countries like Moldova and Belarus who may not always have the standout song to win but will always deliver something interesting. I’m confident that if given more time to grow and develop their approach, either of these countries can do a Portugal and win for the first time! I have a bit of a France bias because I’ve studied French for the past 8 years!

What national finals are you most looking forward to?

Destination Eurovision really set the bar high last year so I’m very excited to hear all the entries in full! Melfest and Eesti Laul sound great as usual! I’m looking forward to most likely being let down by the BBC with this year’s You Decide but I’ll let them get away with it because it’s being held in Greater Manchester! Of course, we also have Australia Decides to be excited about!!!

We'd probably agree with all of that, hopefully not 'You Decide' letting you all down though.

Any prediction of what we might see in Tel Aviv this year?

I’m hoping for more non-English songs and bilingual songs which is my wish every year but if I had to guess, it’ll be very LED heavy performances! I’d love some traditional sounding folk songs too! Hopefully we get more creative and outside of the box staging too!!!

Bring back the LEDs! (As long as they're used well) ~ Mike

What do you think of Australia being in Eurovision?

To be honest, I was unsure at first about what you’d have to offer to the contest but I was proven wrong and I think Australia has settled into the Eurovision family very nicely, it’s certainly expanded the scope of the contest and I’m more than happy to have you as part of the Eurovision family!

We like an honest answer, and glad we've won you over :)

Any favourite acts in Australia Decides?

Oh my god, I am so excited for Courtney Act! I’m a huge fan of Drag Race and Drag in general so it really feels like my two worlds have collided so I wish her the best of luck! I’m also very excited for Sheppard and Electric Fields too! You really do have a fantastic lineup and I won’t lie, I’m extremely jealous!!!

Fans of Drag Race here as well and we won't lie... we're glad to see many others jealous of our line up!

And finally... Tonight Again, Sound of Silence, Don’t Come Easy or We Got Love?

I like them all but it’s got to be Tonight Again for me! It’s so good!

Condragulations my dear that was a fantastic Q&A. 10s, 10s, 10s across the board. Thanks for your time!
