The results for ESC250, the annual poll of Eurovision fan's favourite songs of all time, are not too far away now.
In each ESC250 countdown, the songs of that year's Contest always make a huge impact.
Last year's countdown featured 23 Eurovision songs from 2021 with 18 in the top 100. A huge achievement compared to previous years.
Will songs from Eurovision 2022 make a huge impact on the poll this year?
We decided to explore!
Over the last few months we went through 200 sets of votes, from fans, shared on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit and Discord).
We found the following:
Three-quarters of the voters featured one or more Eurovision 2022 songs in their Top 10
Over 240 votes were cast for Eurovision 2022 songs
Over 1500 points were awarded to Eurovision 2022 songs (that's over 14% of the potential points)
17% of people (34 out of 200) gave their douze points to a Eurovision 2022 song
24 out of this years 40 songs made our ESC250 list
Which songs did they vote for?
Calculating the points given by fans these were the Top 5 songs:
1. Chanel - 'SloMo' (Spain) - 297 points
The woman who had wigs flying everywhere due to her energetic and saucy Eurovision performance is easily the most popular 2022 song in the our analysis, period.
Out of the 200 votes 'SloMo' scored 297 points from 16% of voters with almost half of those being sets of 12 points.
There is almost no doubt Chanel will come out in front as the most popular Eurovision 2022 song in this year's ESC250.
The ultimate question: Will 'SloMo' beat 'Euphoria's decade long reign a top of the ESC250?
Well based on our poll of 200 votes it is too close to call!! On overall points 'Euphoria' came out only slightly ahead of 'SloMo' but both have stiff competition from a past Ukrainian entry! We will have to wait and see what transpires on New Years Eve!
2. Cornelia Jakobs - 'Hold Me Closer' (Sweden) - 254 points
Next up is a Eurovision fandom favourite Cornelia Jakob with 'Hold Me Closer'.
Equalling 'SloMo', 'Hold Me Closer' also received points from 16% of voters with half a dozen sets of 12 points.
The biggest achievement would be Cornelia finishing in the top 5. If she manages it, and 'Euphoria' remains in the top 5, it will be the first time since 2015 that Sweden has had two songs in the top 5 of the ESC250. 'Heroes' by Måns Zelmerlöw made its debut on the ESC250 at No. 5 in 2015.
3. Sam Ryder - 'SPACE MAN' (United Kingdom) - 165 points
Another strong favourite within fans, is the entry form the United Kingdom, 'SPACE MAN' by Sam Ryder. The song finishes third in our analysis, with 165 points.
With such an unforgettable performance we expect 'SPACE MAN' to land very highly in this year's ESC250 poll, most likely a top 10 finish.
If Sam achieves this it will be the highest UK entry in ESC250 history.
Since the inception of ESC250 in 2008 the highest the UK has ever reached is No. 16 with Katrina and the Waves song 'Love Shine A Light'. No other UK song has ever made it to the top 20.
4. Konstrakta - 'In corpore sano' (Serbia) - 119 points
It is no surprise to see Konstrakta among the top Eurovision 2022 songs of the year.
If 'In corpore sano' manages to pull off a top 10 it will be the first time since 2016 that a song from Serbia achieves this. In 2016 'Molitva' by Marija Šerifovic sat at No. 9.
5. Kalush Orchestra - 'Stefania' (Ukraine) - 80 points
The overall points seem a little low especially for a Eurovision winner. If Kalush Orchestra miss out on the top 10 or even top 20 it will be the first Eurovision winner to not reach the top 20 on debut on the ESC250 since Netta with 'Toy' reached No. 23 in 2018.
Perhaps the reason for the low points is that a huge amount of votes have been stacked towards another Ukrainian Eurovision entry.
Based on the 200 votes we have collated that other Ukrainian entry is in contention for the No. 1 spot or at least for a top 3 finish.
The rest of the Top 20 Eurovision 2022 songs are below:
6. S10 - 'De diepte' - 73 points
7. MARO - 'Saudade, saudade' - 66 points
8. Monika Liu - 'Sentimentai' - 58 points
9. Alvan & Ahez - 'Fulenn' - 52 points
10. We Are Domi - 'Lights Off' - 51 points
11. Rosa Linn - 'Snap' - 45 points
12. Mahmood & Blanco - 'Brividi' - 36 points
13. Achille Lauro - 'Stripper' - 33 points
14. Ochman - 'River' - 31 points
15. Zdob si Zdub - 'Trenuletul' - 31 points
16. LUMI!X Pia Maria - 'Halo' - 27 points
17. Subwoolfer - 'Give That Wolf a Banana' - 25 points
18. LPS - 'Disko' - 19 points
19. WRS - 'Llamame' - 18 points
20. Andromache - 'Ela' - 15 points
A surprise with our analysis is that 'Snap' by Rosa Linn, which after Eurovision went viral on TikTok and dominated charts around the world , didn't resonate as well as expected within the fandom. Part of this is that ESC250 takes into account the taste of more dedicated Eurovision fans and not the mainstream music scene.
All these insights are to be taken with a grain of salt. Our analysis is only 200 votes that were shared publicly online. The organisers of the ESC250, songfestival.be, have reportedly received a record 10,000+ votes this year. So anything could happen.
Will the above analysis be the final result?
You will have to wait and see this New Year's Eve for the ESC250 countdown on ESC Radio.
The countdown of the most popular Eurovision songs of 2022 will begin on December 31 at 11:00am CET (December 31 at 9:00pm AEDT in Melbourne and Sydney).
