Jordan-Ravi released his Australia Decides song 'Pushing Stars' this week that is winning over many fans.
We wanted to find out more about the man behind the song so we had a quick Q&A with the Darwin busker. Have a read below:
Congratulations on being selected to perform at Australia Decides in 2020. How did this come to be?
I'm lucky enough to be surrounded by a great team. Last year I made it to the judge cuts in America's Got Talent season 14 and from that, I was fortunate enough to be given this amazing opportunity to perform on home soil!
Your entry is a song from Tania Doko and George Sheppard, have you worked with them in any way on your performance?
It's really special to be named in the same sentence as these amazing artists. In terms of the production of the song, we have all worked collaboratively as a team to produce an amazing result! I'm very grateful they allowed me to have such a big input towards the sound we were going for. This whole process for me has been such an honor!
You will be a new name to many Australians, but you have performed on America’s Got Talent - what was that experience like?
America's Got Talent was an incredibly unique experience! To be able to represent the talent we have here in Australia overseas especially in front of Simon Cowell was a huge privilege for me. I never expected to have had such a good reception over there and I definitely won't forget the many interesting characters I met working in LA. The overwhelmingly positive response to my performances still stays with me to this day.
Eurovision itself - is that something relatively new to you or have you followed it throughout the years?
In recent years I have definitely developed a great affection for the competition. The element of theatrics and entertainment are what truly excites me about Eurovision as I am myself an entertainer at heart. I hope I can do this justice with my performance of 'Pushing Stars' on the 8th of February.
What has the fan reaction been like since your announcement? Have you gained new fans and have your old fans welcomed this approach?
I think the Eurovision competition especially resonates with the Australian people and the amount of support I have received for being in Australia Decides has been unprecedented. I feel very lucky from the standpoint that my fans are very loving and supportive no matter what choices I make and this will definitely be one to remember!
You quite often busk on the streets of some of our cities, what songs do you usually perform?
I love busking. There is an element to it that is just so pure and authentic. I play a large cross-section of music but among my favourites would have to be some John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, and Coldplay songs!
You're a Darwin boy, what are some of your local tips for anyone thinking of travelling there?
Darwin will always be a town that is very close to my heart. It's where I was born and raised and has made me into the person I am today. For anyone travelling there I would recommend going to the Mindil Beach Markets and my personal favourite, the Sunday nightcliff markets which is where I first started busking!
What can we hope and expect from you on stage at Australia Decides?
I'll be giving a very energetic performance. I'm definitely the type of performer that doesn't like to just stand still on stage. So you can expect lots of movement, connection with the audience and my trademark hair flick to a very upbeat and emotional song!
Outside of music, what are some of your passions?
I always love playing the guitar! I'm also a passionate aviation enthusiast.
And finally, if you were successful to go to The Netherlands but you could only take three items with you, what would you take?
My guitar, My favourite pair of R&M Williams Boots and my family!
Well the family isn't one item, but we'll allow it! Thanks for your time!
