He's only a friend. Albert Černý wins Semi Final 3 of Szansa Na Sukces.
Can you hear it? The third and final semi of Poland’s Szansa Na Sukces has taken place and was won by charismatic Lake Malawi frontman, Albert Černý. He will now go on to compete in the Final with Kasia Dereń, Alicja Szemplińska as well as a yet to be determined artist who will be awarded the wildcard from the jury. This week the contestants had to sing songs made famous by The Beatles. The artists were:
Marek Kaliszuk- ‘Help!’
Nick Sinckler- ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’
Basia Gąsienica Giewont- ‘Love Me Do’
Albert Černý- ‘Please Please Me’
Norbert Legieć- ‘She Loves You’
Marzena Ryt- ‘Twist And Shout’
Adrian Makar- ‘A Hard Day’s Night’
Albert Černý’s recent Eurovision experience showed in this week’s instalment. Donning a grey skivvy this time, he was a real showstopper with the crowd and even had them clapping along and dancing at one point. He was very confident in his performance and living in the UK for some time also worked to his advantage. Whilst he was born in the Czech Republic, Albert attended Primary school in Poland. Having been raised in Třinec, a small Czech town which lies on the Polish border.
Basia Gąsienica Giewont and New Jersey native, Nick Sinckler were given honourable mentions for their renditions. It has now been reported that Telewizja Polska (TVP) producers will choose a previous Eurovision entry for the finalists to sing for the first segment of the competition. They will sing their Eurovision entry in the second segment. The Final will take place next week on 22 February (23 February, Australia time). The winner will be chosen via public televote, unlike the semis in which the winners were determined by the jury. The jury is made up by former Eurovision contestants: Cleo (2014), Michal Szpak (2016) and Gromee (2018). As this article was written on 17 February 2020, we have discovered that Albert turns 31 today. Happy Birthday Albert!
