Eurovision Fan of the Week - Dawid from Poland

This week we make our way to elegant township of Wrocław! I had a chat to keen twitter fan Dawid (@davolafsson) who shares with us his passion for the contest and one particular Romanian entry...

Thank you for being our Aussievision fan of the week! Tell us a little about yourself:

My name's Dawid, I'm 22, originally from Wrocław, Poland but currently living in Germany. I've been a Eurovision fan since I can remember basically! I've listened to every Eurovision song ever and I'm a 'De La Capat' (Romania's 2015 entrant) stan first, human second.

Your 365 days of the year 'De La Capat' tweets are iconic in the fandom Dav! ~ Liv

How did you get into Eurovision? What was the first year you watched?

I've always watched Eurovision with my grandma (and I still do if I can). My first Eurovision flashback would be seeing the 2007 polish act on stage. Let's say it was an experience for my 9 year old self :D I got even more interested in the contest in 2014, when my country came back after a 2 years break and I've been trying to follow national finals ever since.

What is your favourite Eurovision performance and why?

My favourite Eurovision performance would be probably something from the recent years I think, as the contest's quality gets better with time. It's really random but I loved Franka's live performance of 'Crazy' from 2018. I believe it was really really underrated. But I have to mention the iconic performance of Cleo and her Slavic girls and I'm really proud of it!

From a rural background myself the practice of butter churning on stage felt like an important agricultural advancement for the Eurovision community ha ha ~ Liv

Which Polish artist would you love to see on the Eurovision stage?

There's one that I really would like to see on the Eurovision stage and that's Sanah. I'm a big fan and her latest album 'Królowa Dram' has no skips, a 10/10 album! I don't think she would do Eurovision though. Maybe she should consider writing a song for someone else because she's a great lyricist? That's just me daydreaming.

If I had to choose someone who has already done Eurovision for Poland that would be Michał Szpak or Justyna Steczkowska.

Which national final are you looking forward to the most?

I'm waiting for all of them to start impatiently but I'm most excited for Melodifestivalen obviously because of the overall quality. I'm also looking forward to UMK and Slovenia's National Final to select Ana Soklič's song for 2021. I really can't wait for Slovenia's attempt this year for some reason. Might be because I fell in love with 'Voda'. To whoever's reading that right now, it's a grower, give it a chance like I did.

It’s still up in the air how Poland will select their artist for 2021...Would you prefer a national final like Szansa na sukces or internal selection?

I'm not a big fan of Szansa Na Sukces to be fair. I think Alicja should be selected internally and if they let us decide the song through a National Final that would be great. I have a lot of faith in Alicja and (if she's selected) I believe I won't be disappointed.

Loyalty to Alicja, we love to see it! ~ Liv

What is your opinion on returning artists? Is there one you would like to see again?

I'm all up for returning artists because why not? If they did great once, let's try again. If they did bad, go for redemption baby (but only with a good song :D). There's one band I would love to see again in the contest: Voltaj and I don't care what anybody says!

If you could pick only three performances to encourage new people to watch Eurovision what would they be:

My first thought was 'Fuego' because it was just flawless. You might not like the song but you can't say the performance was bad. The other two would be Jamala's '1944' to showcase the diversity of the contest and Australia's 'Zero Gravity' because it was really something new for the contest and I'm sure it left many people around the globe speechless. That's something to be proud of!

You're making us blush with such high praises for Kate! ~ Liv

Which Eurovision song:

Is the best winner?

Jamala's '1944' or Dana International's 'Diva'. Two queens and icons.

Has the best live vocal?

I never pay attention to live vocals because unless you're really bad, you're perfect to me but maybe Tamara Todevska?

Was the best Polish entry?

We rocked in the 90s so that would be 'To nie ja' or 'Ale jestem'. 'Color of your life' would place 3rd on the list.

Was robbed?

There are two that came to my mind when I read the question and it's 'Qami' (Armenia 2018) and 'Je t'adore' (Belgium 2006).

Is your guilty pleasure?

My "guilty" pleasure is 'Space' by Slavko but I feel no guilt listening to it if I have to be honest!

I got to witness him live at an OGAE Australia event and my ponytail well and truly flew across the room!! Absolutely wig worthy ~ Liv

Is your favourite National Final song (that didn't make it to Eurovision)?

Ermal Meta's 'Vietato Morire' or Kasia Cerekwicka's 'Na kolana' from the Polish National Final in 2006.

And finally which Australian entry is your favourite…

My favourite is definitely We Got Love, closely followed by Don't Break me. Both amazing :D

Any final words?

Please vote for Voltaj in the next edition of ESC250! We failed them in 2020, the Voltaj Army thank you in advance <3 Thank you Liv and the whole Aussievision team.

You are very welcome Dav - thank YOU for your time and I hope for your sanity Voltaj's 'De La Capat' makes it into ESC250 in the next 10 years or so.
