Returning from 2021 for hosting duties are veteran television presenter Tina Müller and actor Martin Brygmman. The winner of DMGP will be decided through the second round of competition on the night, which acts will proceed to if they rank in the top three acts in the first round. Scores in the first round will combine votes received on the night via SMS and the DMGP app, as well as votes received on the app in the prior voting period. In the second round the votes will be reset, with only further votes received by SMS and the app acting to choose the winner, who will become Denmark’s representative to the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.

First competing in 1957 at Eurovision, Denmark have won the contest three times, most recently in 2013 with Emmerlie de Forest. Gerthe & Jorgen Ingmann (1963) and the Olsen Brothers (2000) being the previous winners before Emmerlie. Last year Fyr Og Flamme represented Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands with the song ‘Øve Os På Hinanden’, which failed to qualify for the final in 11th position.

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2022 will be available on the broadcaster's streaming service DR TV and the official DR website.
