Australia Decides 2022: Isaiah Firebrace and Evie Irie

About the artists

Isaiah Firebreace is a 22-year-old singer songwriter originally from Moama in New South Wales. He broke on to the music scene by winning the 'X Factor Australia' in 2016 at just 17-years-old. Just over six months later he was competing at Eurovision for Australia is Kyiv. He finished in 9th place at the Contest with 'Don't Come Easy' and since then has released many new singles and has been involved in Indigenous advocacy work.

Evie Irie is 19-years-old and is from the Central Coast in New South Wales. During high school she moved to the United States chasing a music career and certainly made a splash. After a bidding war she signed to Republic Records and she has released three EPs in the last three years.

About the song - 'When I'm With You'

The song is co-written by Isaiah and Evie, with some work by Canberra based artist Taka Perry. As Isaiah explained to Aussievision, the session had been set up between their teams.

"Evie and I first met last year in a songwriting session, that was teed up between us, we were just strangers before we met, we kinda hung out in the studio, both vibed in the studio, got to know each other, got creative and had fun," Isaiah said.

In their announcement, the pair explain the song is a story about a couple. Evie's character is unsure of getting into a relationship, while Isaiah's character tries to allay her fears.

What can we expect at Australia Decides?

During an interview with us at Aussievision, the pair hinted it may be low-key, focusing on the song itself.

"When everyone is going right, we go left, everyone is going to do something really crazy, wild and out there, we already have such a difference... we are going to let the song speak for itself and show the connection that we have... It’s going to leave people feelings things," Evie said.
