One third of the Norwegian band and Eurovision 2019 televote winners, KEiiNO, Alexandra Rotan, has performed a powerful rendition of John Farnham’s ‘You’re The Voice’, an Australia classic song, on the Norwegian television singing contest 'Stjernekamp 2021'.
'Stjernekamp' is a live talent competition for established singers on the Norwegian broadcaster NRK's channel NRK1. On the show Norwegian musicians compete in various musical genres. Participants move on from episode to episode through the number of televotes from the audience. The participant with the fewest votes is eliminated from the competition. The last two compete against each other in a final.
Overnight Alexandra competed in the final, where she performed two songs.
She performed a cover of the Aussie classic 'You're the Voice' and KEiiNO's new song 'Venus' where she was joined on stage with Tom Hugo and Fred Buljo from the band.
About performing the 80's cover Alexandra said:
"What I love about the song is that it has an extremely important message. It is about everyone having a voice and that everyone has the right to use it."
She wanted to inspire people to trust themselves, just as she herself has started to do after 10 weeks of competing in 'Stjernekamp'.
Over the duration of the show Alexandra has performed many covers including Coldplay's 'Viva la Vida', Celine Dion's 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now' and during the Eurovision round Verka Serduchka's 'Dancing Lasha Tumbai'. Also check out the performance below you'll notice someone very familiar on the judging panel!
In the final Alexandra finished runner up, with professional yodeler and throat singer Bjørn Tomren taking home the trophy. In regards to his win Bjørn said "I'm glad it's over, and I'm glad I won. And I'm very happy that I was in the final with Alexandra. She is absolutely amazing."
Alexandra isn't the only Eurovision star to perform a cover of 'You're the Voice' in the last few months.
Back in August Eurovision 2012 winner Loreen performed a contemporary rendition of 'You're the Voice' on Swedish television for for ‘En kväll för vår planet’.
Interestingly we discovered that every Australian Eurovision artist has performed 'You're the Voice' at some stage in their career. You can check out all their performances here.
